Background

Established in July 2017, the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has rapidly grown to employ nearly 4,000 people as of March 2023. Its staff includes five CAS academicians, over 300 full professors and professorate senior engineers, more than 700 associate researchers and senior engineers, and over 50 high-level talents involved in national or CAS talent programs. AIR also incorporates the UCAS School of Electronics, Electrical and Communication Engineering, and the UCAS School of Opto-Electronics, providing education to over 1800 postgraduate and doctoral students, thereby contributing significantly to China’s research capabilities in aerospace and information technology.

The Aerospace Information Innovation Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in addition to undertaking scientific research and teaching tasks, also contracts projects for the military. The actual user of this project is a certain military region, which establishes network links in various locations and needs to monitor the link quality to ensure the network’s smooth operation.

Challenges:

  • In the initial phase of IT construction, the basic setup of IDC rooms and network links was completed, but there was a lack of operational data monitoring and visualisation analysis tools.
  • An effective alert mechanism was missing, making it impossible to respond to network problems in real-time.

Results:

  • Effective Management Tools: The Cloudwise solution provided the previously missing network management tools, enhancing the overall control and visibility of the network infrastructure.
  • Timely Alert Mechanism: Established a robust and timely alert mechanism that allows for immediate detection and response to network issues, significantly reducing potential risks and ensuring network reliability.
  • Reduced Incident Risk: By proactively addressing and managing network issues, the solution significantly reduced the risk of incidents, providing a more stable and secure network environment.
  • Shortened Response Times: The solution enabled faster identification and resolution of faults, greatly shortening response times during network disruptions and minimising potential operational impacts.
  • Operational Integrity: Ensured the operational integrity of the network by maintaining uninterrupted network connectivity, which is crucial for the operational efficiency and security of the military region.
